LaLiga club Sevilla, where Reyes began his career and enjoyed two spells, tweeted the news on Saturday afternoon.

“We couldn’t be confirming worse news,” they wrote. “Beloved Sevilla star Jose Antonio Reyes has died in a traffic collision. Rest in peace.”

Tributes were paid to the forward all weekend, including at the Champions League final where they observed a minute’s applause before kick-off, while Liverpool defender Alberto Moreno wore a special T-shirt to honour his former team-mate.

The player’s funeral was held on Monday in his hometown of Utrera, after fans lined the streets as his coffin was driven from Sevilla’s stadium on Sunday.

And Arsenal hero Parlour added his own tribute to his fellow Invincible on talkSPORT on Monday morning.

“It was awful news, I was shocked,” the former Gunners midfielder said on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast. “I played with him for three or four months – he signed in the January window of the unbeaten season, but he was some talent.

“He didn’t really settle in England, I think he played about 70 games for Arsenal, but you could see the talent he had.

“What a shame.

“He was a really good lad. Some of the players who played with him for a longer period, Thierry Henry and Cesc Fabregas, they all said what a great guy he was.

“So it was really sad news over the weekend.”

Fabian Schar: Brain injury charity Headway calls for UEFA to launch investigation over Newcastle United defender̢۪s concussion

Brain injury charity Headway has demanded a UEFA investigation after Fabian Schar played the full 90 minutes of Switzerland’s 2-0 win over Georgia, despite being â€Å“knocked out for a few seconds” in the first half.

The Newcastle defender was involved in a sickening clash of heads with Georgia̢۪s Jemal Tabidze in the 24th minute as Switzerland got their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign off to a winning start on Saturday.

There was a five-minute stoppage while Schar received treatment from medical staff before completing the rest of the game.

The 27-year-old told Swiss outlet Blick that he was â€Å“knocked out for a few seconds” and could not remember the incident. He lay on the ground motionless as players checked to see if he had swallowed his tongue.

Schar will not play a part in Tuesday̢۪s Group D game with Denmark and is suspended for Newcastle̢۪s trip to Arsenal next week.

But in a statement on Monday, Headway expressed its â€Å“anger and disbelief” over the incident.

The statement added: “The charity has demanded UEFA launches an investigation into the circumstances that resulted in Swiss player Fabian Schar being cleared to continue playing in a match against Georgia – just minutes after being knocked unconscious and needing emergency help from a member of the opposition.”

Headway chief executive Peter McCabe said: “What is it going to take to make football take concussion seriously?

“How many more players will have their careers and, more importantly, their lives and long-term health put at risk by the sport’s inability to follow its own protocols?

“Put simply, the decision to allow Fabian Schar to return to the field of play after suffering a clear concussion was not only incredibly dangerous but also a clear dereliction of duty.

“The player’s comments after the match are also deeply disturbing and again show the lack of awareness and understanding among players.

“UEFA must immediately launch an investigation into the incident and explain why their protocols were not followed.”

On Sunday, the Swiss Football Association said: â€Å“International Fabian Schar is in good shape on the day after the game of the A national team in Georgia and the clash in a header duel with Jemal Tabidze.

â€Å“When the medical team of the Swiss A national team arrived immediately after the clash, (Dr Damian) Meli said he (Schar) was ‘awake and oriented’.

“He was examined according to the ‘Sport Concussion Assessment Tool’ – no neuropsychological deficits could be detected.

“Therefore, after about five minutes of treatment, the medical team decided to let Schar continue playing. The centre-back could then continue the game without significant problems and play through to the end.

“Since later, more detailed tests after the game concluded no abnormal results, Fabian Schar was able to return to travel with the team back to Switzerland.”

The situation sparked outrage with brain injury charity Headway, who demanded UEFA to launch an investigation into the situation. Newcastle legend Shearer was also vocal over the matter, labelling

LONDON ̢ۢ Jose Mourinho has appeared to suggest Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has become "a puppet" at Manchester United, with the former manager alluding to certain players having too much power.
After succeeding the sacked Portuguese, initially on an interim basis in December, Solskjaer won over his doubters with a run of 14 victories in 19 matches.
However, his promising start was undone after the Red Devils lost six of their 10 games, following the decision to reward him with a three-year contract at the end of March.
But Mourinho insisted he had not been surprised by their struggles, which culminated with the home Premier League defeat by relegated Cardiff on the final day of the term, before taking a thinly veiled swipe at the "nice guy" who replaced him.
He told French daily L'Equipe: "Generally, the players can feel a certain erosion, especially when you ask a lot of them.
"When I say that the second season (when United finished second behind Manchester City in May 2018) was fantastic, I say it because the potential and the objectives were met.
"I really squeezed, like an orange, to achieve them. When you have a very professional group of players who are ambitious, hard-working and talented, at a structured club, you don't have that erosion.
"When you are almost alone, in that you don't have the support of the club close to you, while certain players go somewhat against the coach, who is the nice guy?
"I don't want to be the nice guy, because the nice guy, after three months, is a puppet and that doesn't end well.

NICE GUYS FINISH LAST
When you are almost alone, in that you don't have the support of the club close to you, while certain players go somewhat against the coach, who is the nice guy? I don't want to be the nice guy, because the nice guy, after three months, is a puppet and that doesn't end well.
JOSE MOURINHO, on his experience as United manager and that his successor Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is facing similar problems.

"I said nine or 10 months ago that after winning eight championships, finishing second with United may have been my greatest achievement. Now people understand.
"About United, I want to say only two things - one is that time has spoken. Two is that the problems are still there."
Having taken United to sixth place, Solskjaer has acknowledged it could take some time before the team can challenge for the title again. They also face a challenge to persuade some of their transfer targets to commit to a season of Europa League football.
United do not appear close to signing any players at the moment, and Solskjaer has identified "a certain kind of attitude" he wants from new additions.
He told the club's official app yesterday: "You have got to have the qualities and our fans want to see exciting players.
"It's always been in our culture. You've to have that work ethic and we're trying to find the right ones."
There are also doubts over the future of Paul Pogba, whom Mourinho frequently clashed with.
"The problems are there (at the club), I only say that I cannot say yes when you ask if Paul was the only one responsible," the Portuguese added.

The Premier League bargains who will be worth much more this summer, including Arsenal ace Matteo Guendouzi and Liverpool star Xherdan Shaqiri

Premier League clubs have unearthed some hidden gems this season.

Players who were bought on the cheap have excelled in England’s top-flight so far and here, talkSPORT.com looks at those signed last summer who will be worth much more now.

Fabian Schar (Newcastle) – £3million from Deportivo La Coruna

Fabian Schar has impressed at both ends of the pitch for Newcastle

Schar has played a vital role in Newcastle̢۪s recent upturn in form, scoring three times in five successive Premier League home wins. His stunning strike against Burnley won him the February goal of the month award.

The 27-year-old defender’s impressive displays have seen him linked with moves to Tottenham and Arsenal. Both north London clubs would have to pay considerably more than the £3million Newcastle paid Deportivo to land the Switzerland international.

David Brooks (Bournemouth) – £10million from Sheffield United

David Brooks has starred for Bournemouth this season

7

David Brooks has starred for Bournemouth this season

Brooks’ form for Sheffield United in the Championship last season – his debut campaign – was enough to convince Eddie Howe and Bournemouth to splash the cash.

At a modest fee of just £10million, Brooks is paying it back with starring performances in the Premier League. He has scored six goals, including a strike in a 4-0 win over Chelsea in January, and registered four assists.

He signed a new long-term contract with the Cherries last month to help ward off reported interest from Manchester United and Tottenham.

Joao Moutinho (Wolves) – £5million from Monaco

Joao Moutinho has been a revelation for Wolves

Moutinho’s move to Wolves was one of the most surprising transfers of the 2018 summer window. A European Championship winner does not often sacrifice Champions League football for a newly-promoted club – but that is exactly what Moutinho did.

At 32, in his first taste of Premier League football, the midfielder has fitted in seamlessly leaving Spurs fans to rue what might have been as they were ‘minutes’ from signing him under Andre Villas-Boas.

Playing in either a two or three-man midfield, most of Moutinho̢۪s seven assists have come from dead ball situations.

Matteo Guendouzi (Arsenal) – £7million from Lorient

Matteo Guendouzi has been a huge hit for Arsenal this season

Matteo Guendouzi has been a huge hit for Arsenal this season

Playing in Ligue 2 last season, most Arsenal fans would not have known who Guendouzi was. The Frenchman might have thought he would have to bide his time for a first-team chance with Lucas Torreira, Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey in midfield.

But Arsenal boss Unai Emery started Guendouzi in the club’s first game of the season against Premier League champions Manchester City – and since his debut – he has made 36 more appearances in all competitions.

His form has kept Denis Suarez, who joined on loan from Barcelona in January, waiting for a first league start.

Reports claim Paris Saint-Germain are keeping tabs on Guendouzi, who is constantly improving.

Ben Foster (Watford) – free transfer from West Brom

Ben Foster has been solid for Watford

7

Ben Foster has been solid for Watford

Foster, at the age of 35, has played every single minute of Watford̢۪s impressive Premier League campaign. The Hornets are eighth and just one point off a Europa League place.

The former England international was relegated with West Brom last season, but has bounced back emphatically with Watford.

Xherdan Shaqiri (Liverpool) – £13million from Stoke

Xherdan Shaqiri’s brace inflicted the final defeat of Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United career

7

Xherdan Shaqiri’s brace inflicted the final defeat of Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United career

Eyebrows were raised when Liverpool activated Shaqiri̢۪s release clause following his relegation with Stoke.

The winger was inconsistent during his time at the bet365 Stadium and a huge jump to a top-four club seemed too much. However, he has been a solid squad player for Liverpool, providing competition for Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.

He became a fans̢۪ favourite since coming off the bench to score twice in a 3-1 win over Manchester United in December.

Salomon Rondon (Newcastle) – £2million loan fee from West Brom

Salomon Rondon is in fine goalscoring form

7

Salomon Rondon is in fine goalscoring form

Newcastle paid West Brom £2million to sign Rondon on loan with Dwight Gayle heading the other way – and it is a move that has worked out perfectly for them.

The Venezuelan has been Rafa Benitez’s first-choice striker, netting ten goals this season, including three in his last five to help the Magpies climb the table.

With just one year left on Rondon̢۪s contract, you̢۪d be surprised if Newcastle did not make the loan move permanent this summer.

The 23-year-old Marseille player's agent claims Tottenham and Arsenal are looking at the Ligue star with a view to a possible summer move. Again, much depends on Dembele's future and whether he stays at the club, but Sanson certainly seems to be one of the players on Tottenham's radar.

Chelsea transfer news: N’Golo Kante ‘wanted’ by Real Madrid if Paul Pogba proves too costly from Manchester United

N̢۪Golo Kante is reportedly a summer transfer target for Real Madrid as they look to overhaul their squad in the summer.

The La Liga club have already made Chelsea winger Eden Hazard their number one priority ahead of next season.

The Blues could face another battle to keep one of their star players.

Figures of around £130million for the France international have been suggested and would make him one of the most expensive players ever.

Chelsea are facing a transfer ban and are unlikely to want to sell two of their most prized assets without being able to bring in replacements.

Kante has been played out of position by Maurizio Sarri with Jorginho being preferred in the defensive midfield role.

The Blues signed him for just £32million in 2016 after helping Leicester City win the Premier League title.

He then went on to win the league in his first season with the club under Antonio Conte.

The 28-year-old was also named as the PFA Players̢۪ Player of the Year in that title-winning campaign.

Hammering is best form of 'respect'

Hammering is best form of 'respect'

LONDON ̢ۢ Nigel Clough managed to retain his sense of humour after Burton's 9-0 trouncing by Manchester City, stating his hope that Pep Guardiola had "more than one glass" of wine on offer for the post-match drink.
The third-tier side's heavy loss in the League Cup semi-final first leg at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday ended their hopes of reaching the final, yet he remained light-hearted when asked what his opposite number told him at full-time.
"He said, 'Come in for a glass of wine'. I hope he's got more than a glass," said the visiting manager, who insists his team will use the return leg in a fortnight to celebrate reaching the last four.
"Do I wish we hadn't played? Not at all, we have made history in getting this far. It wasn't about tonight, it was about the achievement of getting here. We kept going right to the end, the City fans were shouting, 'We want 10'. And we stopped them, that's a positive for us."
Gabriel Jesus struck four goals as Kevin de Bruyne, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Phil Foden, Kyle Walker and Riyad Mahrez were also on target against Clough's League One side, with victory leaving their visit to the Pirelli Stadium on Jan 23 a mere formality.
City manager Guardiola said his team's merciless approach in the game was a form of respect for their opponents and the competition.
City were 4-0 up at half-time but continued to rip apart their vastly outclassed opponents as they ran up the biggest margin of victory in an English Cup semi-final.
"If you forget to continue (attacking) you don't have respect for your opponent or for the competition," said the Spaniard.

Burton's 9-0 loss is the heaviest League Cup defeat by any side since Liverpool defeated Fulham 10-0 in the second round in September 1986. It is also the largest margin of defeat in the semi-finals of the competition.

"We spoke about it at half-time, to try to score more goals. That is the best way to respect the competition and opponent. The best way is to do what you have to do.
"The difference between the Premier League teams and League One teams, of course the quality of the players no doubt about that, but especially the rhythm. When you have high intensity and rhythm for 90 minutes, the physicality is higher and we scored quickly."
Guardiola also praised the club's achievement in reaching the last four, a run which saw them beat Premier League side Burnley and Championship teams Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough.
"Burton have had an incredible tournament. They have to be so proud, they did so well," he said.
Clough, son of Nottingham Forest's late European Cup-winning manager Brian Clough, added that he was not surprised at the outcome because of "the gulf between the two teams".
City were rightly lauded by Clough for their technical class and football rooted in total adventure but their work rate was also of the highest order.
They can outrun opponents as well as outpass them. They have the strength in depth to make changes, with only four regular first-teamers starting, and still be far too good for their opposition.
Ilkay Gundogan was doing what he does best, spraying around some exquisite passes when given time.
David Silva was gliding around, passing and moving, finding room and friendly feet, small but perfectly performing.
De Bruyne was supposedly easing his way back to full fitness but was in full Rolls-Royce mode between the boxes for an hour.

Edinburgh derby: Three men charged after disorder following fan trouble in Hearts vs Hibernian clash

Three men have been charged following disorder at the Edinburgh derby on Saturday.

A 19-year-old has been arrested in connection with throwing a flare, a 16-year-old in connection with throwing a coin and a 38-year-old in connection with using racist language.

A fan also launched a coconut onto the pitch during the game – which provoked some hilarious reaction on social media.

Police Scotland are also investigating after footage was posted on Twitter which purported to show racist abuse directed at Hibernian midfielder Marvin Bartley during the side’s 2-1 win over Hearts.

A police spokeswoman said: “Police in Edinburgh are investigating following a report of a hate crime at Tynecastle Stadium.

“The incident happened on Saturday, April 6, and was reported to police on Monday, April 8.”

Anti-discrimination group Kick It Out has stressed the urge for stronger action from social media companies.

A spokesperson said: “We have long campaigned for social media companies to take swift and decisive action against people who use their platforms for hate speech.

“Twitter say abuse and harassment has ‘no place’ on its site but it is obvious that there really is a place for it there and in our view the problem is getting worse. We note that Twitter has a ‘Hateful Conduct Policy’ and internal technology but evidently neither is deterrent for the racists.

“Footballers, like anyone in society, are entitled to go about their work without being abused, intimidated or trolled.”

“Abuse and harassment – no matter who the victim – have no place on Twitter. Our team uses proprietary-built internal technology to proactively find abusive content and provides users with a single report that they can email to the police.

“Our Hateful Conduct Policy prohibits the promotion of violence against – or threats of attack towards – people on the basis of certain categories such as race and ethnic origin. As per these policies, we take strong enforcement action if an incident violates our rules.”
