Ander Herrera: Manchester United ‘prepared’ to double his current salary in effort to stop midfielder leaving on free transfer

Manchester United are reportedly offering Ander Herrera double his current wages in an effort to get him to stay at the club.

The midfielder is out of contract with United at the end of the season.

The 29-year-old has been free to negotiate with overseas clubs as he is in the last six months of his contracts.

There had been reports that Paris Saint-Germain were set to sign him when his contract ends. Arsenal could make a late move for Herrera as Unai Emery is a big fan of the midfielder.

Forbes are reporting that United are doing all they can to try and get him to stay at Old Trafford.

He has reportedly been offered a four-year contract that would double his current salary.

They are also prepared to pay him more than £200,000-a-week, which has been the reported wage he will receive elsewhere.

Herrera’s agent is understood to have been pushing for a five year deal worth £300,000-a-week.

United’s executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, chose to activate a year-long extension on Herrera’s contract last summer instead of negotiating a new deal.

This late push to get him to sign a contract may not be enough to convince him to stay.

Herrera’s protracted signing from Athletic Bilbao was completed in 2014 when United met his £28.85million buyout clause.

He has gone on to make 187 appearances for the club and won the FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League.
