Vincent Kompany announced over the weekend he was leaving Manchester City after an illustrious career with the club.
The imperious centre-back has been captain of the side during the most successful period in their history and will go down as a true Premier League legend.
The 33-year-old signed off in style by completing a historic domestic treble with a 6-0 FA Cup final win over Watford.
He is leaving the club to become player-manager of Anderlecht, the team he started his career at.
Kompany is one of the greatest captains we have seen during the Premier League era but who are the best? Here at talkSPORT.com we have ranked the best skippers since 1992.

10. Wes Morgan
Morgan was the man who led Leicester City to the Premier League title. Just by that fact alone he deserves his place on this list.
The centre-back helped them win promotion to the top-flight in 2014 and two seasons later they were lifting the title.
9. Steve Bruce
Bruce effectively took over the captaincy from Bryan Robson in the 1992/93 season and led them to further titles in 1993/94 and 1995/96.
He was a clear leader on the pitch and was one of the players who helped usher in the success Manchester United have enjoyed during the Premier League era.
8. Gary Neville
The right-back replaced Roy Keane as Manchester United captain in 2005 until his retirement in 2011.
United were particularly dominant during this period with rising young stars Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo.
During this period they won four Premier League titles in five seasons and the Champions League in 2008.
7. Alan Shearer
Shearer may not have won trophies with Newcastle but he was certainly a leader from the front.
The striker scored 206 goals in 404 Premier League games for the Magpies and was a consistent presence as club captain.
6. Patrick Vieira
Vieira inherited the captaincy from Tony Adams in 2002 and led them to the famous ‘Invincibles’ title win in 2004.
The midfielder also captained the side to two FA Cups in three seasons at the end of his Arsenal career.
5. Steven Gerrard
The Liverpool legend may never have won the Premier League but he was a driving force for them for so many seasons.
Gerrard would so often step up when he was needed and you just have to remember his heroics in the 2005 Champions League final and 2006 FA Cup to see what influence he had.
4. John Terry
The centre-back is Chelsea’s most successful ever captain and won five Premier League titles with the club.
He is still loved by the fans, who still have his ‘Captain, Leader, Legend’ banner at Stamford Bridge.
Terry also won five FA Cups, three League Cups, the Champions League and Europa League with the Blues.
3. Tony Adams
Adams is the only player to captain a team to three league titles in three difference decades (80s, 90s and 00s).
He played an incredible 670 times for the Gunners and was club captain for 14 years, from 1988 until 2002.
The defender enjoyed an illustrious career with Arsenal and even has a statue outside the Emirates.
2. Vincent Kompany
Kompany may not have played as many games in recent seasons but his influence has not diminished.
He has been the man Pep Guardiola turns to in the big games and stepped up when City needed it in this title winning season, most notably with his spectacular goal against Leicester in the penultimate game of the season.
The centre-back led City to four Premier League titles, four League Cups and two FA Cups in his 11 seasons at the club.
