Sarri made the surprise decision to name his star man among the substitutes in the first leg against Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

But Saunders told talkSPORT on Friday that leaving out Hazard just made no sense.
“It’s ridiculous,†he told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.

BT Sport pundit Glenn Hoddle was also dumbfounded by Sarri’s decision to bench Hazard, and believes it gave Frankfurt the boost they needed to open the scoring at the Commerzbank-Arena.
In-demand striker Luka Jovic – linked with a move to Real Madrid – nodded the hosts in front, before Pedro levelled the tie on the stroke of half-time.

“For the life of me can’t understand why you wouldn’t play your best player in this semi-final,†said Hoddle on Thursday night.
“I’m sure the Chelsea fans who have travelled or are watching in tonight will be scratching their heads because you need your best players in the semi-finals.
“You play your best team, you get to the final and then you try to win the trophy – which puts them back in the Champions League! You don’t rest him.
“Just imagine that [Frankfurt] dressing room, when the teams come in, and Hazard’s not starting — what a lift that gives you!
“Not playing against one of the best players in the world… you’ve got to be happy about that.â€
