The 33-year-old set up Steve Birnbaum for his side’s opener before scoring a stunning free-kick in the 30th minute.

He won the set-piece after being fouled near the corner flag and curled in his fourth goal of the season from an almost impossible angle.
The win moves DC United to the top of the Eastern Conference.
Rooney was playing against former United team-mate Nani, who signed a three-year deal with Orlando in February.
Prior to the game, which Nani was substituted in after 78 minutes, he said: “It’s a long time since I’ve seen him. It will be a good time to catch up and talk a little bit.

Rooney’s outrageous effort was similar to a free-kick he scored against Stoke in January 2017, which saw him become United’s leading goalscorer with 250 goals, surpassing Sir Bobby Charlton’s all-time record.
It was also similar to Juninho’s memorable effort for Lyon against Barcelona in a 2009 last 16 Champions League tie.
Rooney has been playing in MLS since last summer. Having ended his 13-year spell at Old Trafford with 253 goals in 2017, he rejoined boyhood club Everton before moving to DC United.
