It is understood Barton and Stendel had to be separated after the full-time whistle but the former Manchester City player reportedly followed his opposite number towards the dressing rooms.

Tykes forward Cauley Woodrow took to Twitter to describe the incident, claiming Stendel had blood pouring from his face afterwards. The post has since been deleted.

Woodrow tweeted:  â€Å“Firstly @ftfc to have a manager that can physically assault another manager in the tunnel is disgusting, causing our manager to have blood pouring from his face!!

â€Å“People like you don’t deserve a place in the game of football you are foul. Secondly fantastic win today @BarnsleyFC”.
