Liverpool agree price reduction with Porto for Champions League quarter-final second leg tickets

Liverpool have agreed a deal with Porto to ensure cheaper ticket prices for travelling supporters for the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final next month.

The Reds will take on the Portuguese side at home on April 9 before playing the reverse fixture at the Estadio do Dragao the following week hoping to book their place in the final four.

Away tickets for the match in Portugal were initially set at £73 (€85), but after issues over high costs when the two met in the round of 16 a year ago, the club have worked with their opponents and UEFA to agree a new price of £52 (€60).

This is €15 less than the tickets were for last season’s meeting at the Estadio do Dragao.

“Liverpool would like to thank FC Porto for working with the club on a pricing structure,” a club statement read.

“Fellow Champions League clubs are also continuing to work with UEFA to negotiate the fairest ticket prices for their fans throughout the competition.

“The dialogue regarding a price cap on tickets for away fans will also continue.

“Until such a cap is agreed, Liverpool will continue to work with the opposition and UEFA to discuss the most reasonable ways of reducing costs for travelling supporters.”

This is not the first time Champions League ticket prices have been in the news this week.

It was confirmed a couple of days ago that Barcelona are charging Manchester United supporters £102 per ticket for their clash at Camp Nou next month.

United responded by charging Barcelona supporters the same amount for a seat at Old Trafford for the reverse fixture, with the club using funds raised from this increased price to subsidise United’s travelling supporters.

A United statement read: “In this instance we believe that our travelling supporters are again being subjected to increased/excessive ticket prices from the host club.

“We have again taken the difficult decision to charge FC Barcelona fans for the home leg at Old Trafford the same amount that FC Barcelona are charging for the away fixture (£102).

“We will use the additional revenue gained from this to subsidise our travelling support by paying the £27 price difference for each of our travelling supporters.”
