Manchester United slammed: ‘There is something wrong’ with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team, says Ian Holloway

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has ‘a huge job’ ahead of him this summer to clear his squad of players who aren’t pulling their weight.

That’s according to Ian Holloway – co-host on Monday’s Jim White show – who believes ‘there is something wrong’ in the current Red Devils side.

United maintained their bid for a Premier League top-four finish by beating West Ham 2-1 this weekend, but it was not a comfortable victory.

Even Solskjaer admitted his men got lucky, with Hammers star Felipe Anderson having an early goal wrongly chalked off for offside, before Paul Pogba scored twice from the spot after two controversial penalty decisions.

There’s no doubt United have been an improved team since Solskjaer succeeded Jose Mourinho as manager last December, but their performance levels have suffered a startling drop in recent weeks.

The Red Devils have lost four of their last six games in all competitions, including a 1-0 defeat at home to Barcelona which has left their Champions League hopes hanging by a thread.

And Holloway believes a big attitude problem still exists in the Man United dressing room, despite Solskjaer’s good work.

“You can’t just turn up whenever you want, you have to be consistent if you’re going to wear that Manchester United shirt,” he told talkSPORT host Jim White on Monday.

“Ole has got a huge job to do.

“They need to clear that out, because something is wrong with that squad.”

Asked if United fans should be worried about their side’s top-four hopes, the former Premier League manager added: “Yeah, they should.”

United travel to Barcelona for the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday – with LIVE COMMENTARY on talkSPORT – and they must overturn a 1-0 deficit to progress to the last four.

But Solskjaer has conceded they will have no chance of beating the Spanish giants if they don’t improve upon their lacklustre display from Saturday’s defeat of the Hammers.

“With a performance like this we all know we will struggle in Barcelona,” said the recently-appointed permanent manager after the fortunate victory.

“We got away with it, got three points, in a few years no one will remember how we played if we finish in the top four.

“They played better than us, it is fair to say, I don’t think anyone will disagree.”
