Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku is seemingly on his way out of Old Trafford.
The Belgian does not seem to be part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans for next season and he has has already been linked with a move to Inter Milan, with new San Siro boss Antonio Conte a huge admirer of the striker.
Marcus Rashford led the line for large parts of the season but his finishing still leaves a lot to be desired, having notched up just ten goals in 33 matches this season.
So who should United target to replace Lukaku? talkSPORT.com has identified five suitable targets…
LATEST FOOTBALL NEWS
Nicolas Pepe
According to the Daily Express, United have identified Pepe as a potential replacement for Lukaku.
The 23-year-old winger, who has emerged as one of Ligue 1’s brightest stars, has also caught the attention of Arsenal and Liverpool.
The Ivorian netted 22 times and provided 11 assists in a superb campaign and finished as the league’s second top scorer.
Club president Gerard Lopez recently told Telefoot: “Four or five players will be leaving this summer.
“He enters a price range that can no longer be paid. There is a career choice to make for him, I think he will have the choice.”
Pepe is under contract with Lille until the summer of 2022. It is understood the club value him at £60million.
Antoine Griezmann
Luka Jovic
Jovic was seemingly on the verge of signing for Real Madrid but reports in recent days have settled and United could swoop in on the forward.
The striker has risen to be one of the hottest properties in Europe with his fine performances in the Bundesliga.
The 21-year-old has netted 27 goals in all competitions this season and if there is any sense of urgency at United, the Red Devils hierarchy should move quick to hijack the deal as this forward is the real deal.
He is still very young and could solve United’s problems up front for many years to come.
Mauro Icardi (Inter Milan)
Icardi has long been linked with a move away from Inter and his position at the club looks precarious after he was stripped of the captaincy in February.
There is no question that he is hugely talented as he has a phenomenal goal record for the Serie A side, with 109 strikes in just 179 league matches.
And with Conte targeting Lukaku, a potential swap deal could suit both parties perfectly.
However, Icardi may favour playing in the Champions League and could try and fight for his place in Conte’s set-up as the Italian begins his reign with the San Siro outfit.
Moussa Dembele
There was a lot pressure on the Frenchman’s shoulders when he moved to Lyon from Celtic last summer but he has delivered with 21 goals in all competitions for the Ligue 1 side.
The 22-year-old is no stranger to English football, having played for Fulham before joining Celtic.
But he was still very young during his spell with the Cottagers and now he has more experience under his belt in the Scottish and French leagues.
He could prove to be a big hit in the English top flight, with his skill set seemingly perfectly suited to the division.
A move for Dembele would no doubt be a risk, but it may be worth taking as he would be a cheaper option than the other forwards in this list.
